Where Have We Been?

Trip Logs

A couple of decades ago, the BurntFrog sailing team explored Southern California and Mexico.  We kept ship's logs as a personal record of our experiences on board the SV SolMate.  Now that we're wheeling through the countryside in our Ford truck and Lance travel trailer, the logs have evolved into these travel notes about our life on the road.

Roundabout to Florida via British Columbia, 2022

After spending the restrictive COVID years bouncing around Washington, poking into corners of the state that we'd never explored, the BurntFrogs looked at our Bothell home and wondered, "Why the heck do we have a house when we spend all of our time on the road exploring the country in our trailer?"  No logical answer was heard.

Florida to New Mexico, 2023

From Florida we crossed the southern US westward, following the coast around the Gulf.  At the bottom of Texas we stopped to see what was happening at SpaceX in Boca Chica then continued on straight across to New Mexico.

FL to NM 2023 Trip Log

Colorado Summer, April - October 2023

Arrival in the Southwest begins a new chapter in our travels as we figure out what to do about a base camp.  One town we thought might suit didn't grab our imaginations, but one town, and one little cottage in particular, actually did pique our interest.  Our new base camp is centrally located to explore the Rockies, so that's what we're doing ... besides providing a bit of TLC to our little Colorado cottage.

New Mexico Oct. - Dec. 2023

Another Fall is upon us, which means that the BurntFrogs are on their way southwestward toward lower elevations and warmer climates, but not until we explore more of New Mexico's mountains with our new NM State Park Pass.

AZ, CA, Baja, NM and TX Winter 2023/24

Visiting friends and family is the name of the game for the last few days of 2023 and on into the new year.  It's such a treat to find friends along our route, or to reroute to ensure our paths cross.  To that end, we're connecting the dots between Phoenix, Parker, Palm Desert and Bahia de los Angeles.  Then we'll head out to TX for the eclipse and circle back to New Mexico to welcome the bats on their Spring return to Carlsbad Caverns.
